For these portraits of my cat Marzipan, I used composition principles of attention to detail, colors that echo each other, focus and rule of thirds. I also directed my subject.
I stubbornly stuck with ISO 100. Probably could have gotten much better pictures if I'd just accepted the fact that I didn't have good available light, and gone ahead and used 400 or 800.
